Greens Party Faces Defeat as Leader Loses Position in Election Collapse

Australian Greens leader Adam Band lost his seat on Thursday as the final results of the recent general election came in. Voters decided to oust left-wing politicians, marking a significant shift.

The Greens have struggled and had not secured a seat yet, though the situation was still being assessed.

Before this election, they held four seats in the previous council.

Band, aged 53, reached out to his Labour opponent, Sarah Whitty, to offer his congratulations and wished her well.

According to reports, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Labour Party achieved a decisive victory on Saturday, securing at least 92 seats in the 150-member House of Representatives.

The loss of a long-serving MP has surprised the party, and early reports suggested that Band was supportive of the results as they came in.

Band, who represented the Melbourne seat for 15 years, dedicated his tenure to issues like climate change and renewable energy but had also been embroiled in discussions surrounding the conflict in Gaza.
