Israel has indicated it will “act accordingly” in response to the Fleet of Freedoms, which is carrying climate activist Greta Thunberg, as it makes its way to the Gaza Strip.

The 22-year-old Swedish environmentalist set off this week alongside 11 other activists, flying Palestinian flags. Their aim is to provide assistance and highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “We’re doing this because no matter how much we oppose it, we have to keep trying,” Thunberg mentioned.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) confirmed on Wednesday that they are monitoring the situation. IDF spokesman Brigadier General Effy Deflin stated, “We’re ready again in this case. We have gained experience in recent years and act accordingly.” However, Deflin didn’t elaborate on the specific measures Israel might take regarding Thunberg’s arrival.

The crew aboard the Madleen includes actor Liam Cunningham, known for his role in “Game of Thrones,” and Lima Hassan, a French member of the Palestinian European Parliament. Hassan has been barred from entering Israel due to her vocal opposition to the military actions in Gaza.

Last month, another ship in the Freedom Fleet was reportedly targeted by drones from Israel shortly before reaching Malta, where it was supposed to pick up Thunberg for a similar mission.

During her journey, which commenced from Catania in Sicily, Thunberg has been sharing moments on social media, even capturing footage of herself swimming in the sea.

“The moment we stop trying is when we lose humanity, and no matter how dangerous this mission is, it’s not as dangerous as the silence of the world facing live-streamed genocide,” she expressed before her departure.
