Bacterial Infection Investigation at Ramona Market

Officials in San Diego County are looking into a local market in Ramona after a suspected outbreak of salmonellosis infected 13 individuals.

It is thought that the Ramona Family Naturals Market, situated close to Collier County Park, may have used raw, unpasteurized eggs in their mayonnaise, which led to the contamination.

The affected customers, all aged 27 to 60, experienced various symptoms, with four individuals needing hospitalization for more severe cases.

Investigation teams are collaborating with the owner of the market to trace the origin of the eggs that might have been tainted.

According to a statement from county officials, the market owner has been cooperating closely with Environmental Health and Public Health Services to cease the use of raw eggs in their food products.

Health officials recommend that anyone who might have consumed food from Ramona Family Naturals Market keep an eye on their health and consult with their healthcare provider if symptoms develop.

Common symptoms of salmonellosis include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which might have blood or mucus), abdominal pain, and fever. Typically, these symptoms manifest within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food and usually persist for about 4 to 7 days, often resolving on their own without medical intervention.

If you are currently feeling unwell or have recently recovered after visiting the market, you can report your symptoms to the County Department of Environmental Health and Quality by calling (858) 505-6814 or using this form. An email can also be sent to [email protected].
