Incident Involving Knife-Wielding Attacker in San Francisco
In a troubling incident in San Francisco, a man wearing a keffiyeh confronted federal immigration agents, brandishing a knife and allegedly making threats to harm them and their families, according to charges filed on Thursday.
Adrian Guerrero is accused of assaulting officers and damaging property during an altercation Wednesday with ICE officers from the Enforcement Operations Division, as stated by federal prosecutors.
Witnesses reported Guerrero shouting threats while clad in a black keffiyeh and an orange pair of goggles. He was quoted saying, “I’m going to go for you,” while wielding a knife.
During the altercation on Montgomery Street, he also allegedly shouted he would “stab you” and made threats regarding harming the families of the officers involved.
Earlier that day, Guerrero reportedly slashed the tires of a white Chevrolet marked with Department of Homeland Security insignia before being apprehended by law enforcement.
Officials indicated Guerrero was part of a larger group, around 15 individuals, who were involved in aggressive actions against ICE agents, including the use of pepper spray.
To assist in managing the situation, members of the U.S. Federal Protection Services and local police collaborated with ICE agents to disperse the crowd.
Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem expressed concern about the rising violence faced by law enforcement, stating that agents are experiencing a massive surge in assaults as they work to tackle serious crimes and illegal immigration.
These violent acts, as Noem noted, seem to be spurred by negative rhetoric from certain politicians towards law enforcement.
He reinforced that law enforcement agencies are dedicated to arresting serious criminals, including those involved in heinous acts such as murder and human trafficking.
This event marks a continuation of tensions surrounding immigration enforcement, reminiscent of a recent armed attack on an ICE detention center near Dallas, where armed individuals attacked federal agents.
All suspects from that incident faced charges of attempted murder.
