The terrorist group known as the Gulf Cartel shared a short video through a messaging group that allegedly shows them loading improvised explosive devices onto a drone. The criminal organization is using these drones to drop explosives on rivals, police and others as part of an ongoing turf war in northern Tamaulipas.
In the video, a group of Escorpion factions of the Gulf Cartel are armed with drones and a narco ballad plays in the background. The date the video was shot remains unknown. A law enforcement official who shared the footage with Breitbart Texas said it was recently recorded in the city of Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, a short distance south of Donna, Texas.
As reported by Breitbart Texas, the Escorpiones faction of the Gulf Cartel is in a bitter turf war with a rival faction called Metros, based in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, for control of drug and human smuggling routes. . Both countries have deployed large numbers of armored vehicles and armed groups for the clash. In recent months, Escolpines has used improvised landmines, IEDs, and other explosive devices.
In June, Breitbart Texas exclusively reported on the arrest of William Lewis Anhart, a former U.S. Army soldier who worked for Escorpion and taught them how to make explosive devices. Mexican authorities arrested Mr. Anhart and transported him to Mexico City, where he is facing federal charges related to the manufacture of explosives.
Initially, explosives were only used along dirt roads in the countryside to deter rivals from entering. But in recent weeks, Escorpiones have been using drones to target police. Despite the Tamaulipas state government's efforts to reduce negative information, authorities have confirmed that gunmen in one attack cartel used drones to drop explosives on a police convoy of armored vehicles. I had no choice but to do it.
Metro has also been implicated in the use of explosives, a charge the Tamaulipas state government has tried to deny. In September, a massive explosion in Reynosa killed two people. Authorities in Tamaulipas initially tried to blame the explosion on improper storage of fireworks meant for church events. Months later, explosives were discovered in the rubble, forcing authorities to return to the exact location.
