Gun buyback programs are largely driven by Democratic elected officials at the local level, with the goal of reducing crime and violence. A 2021 research report posted on the National Bureau of Economic Research’s website says there is “no evidence” that such programs “reduce gun violence.”
“Given his celebrity status, I feel like he could probably do something more productive than this,” one of the men in the video said of O’Neal’s involvement in the effort.

Fox News Digital reached out to O’Neal’s representatives but did not immediately receive a response regarding the gun owner’s comments.
The Dallas Sheriff’s Office reported that it “recovered over 130 firearms” following a gun buyback event on February 10th.
“There’s no way I’m going to get it for $100,” one gun owner said in the video. “You’ll never get it for $125, and you’ll never get it for any amount of money.”
