Hainault attack: school praises Daniel Anjorin’s ‘positive and gentle’ character | UK news

A 14-year-old boy killed in an east London knife attack was described as a ‘true scholar’ and kind-hearted man, after it was revealed he went to the same school as one of the victims of a 2023 stabbing in Nottingham. He was praised as a talented soccer player.

Daniel Anjorin was a pupil at the private Bancroft School in Woodford Green, which is still reeling from the loss of former pupil Grace O’Malley-Kumar in June 2023. There is.

Daniel’s mother, who works at a school in east London, is believed to have been attacked near her home in Hainaut on her way to class at around 7am on Tuesday.

One witness said the boy left the house and put on his earphones. Residents shouted, “It’s dangerous because the man is holding a sword,” and the boy was stabbed and fell to the ground.

In a statement, Daniel’s school spoke of the devastation felt by students, staff and former students.

“This has left us deeply shocked and saddened,” the statement said. “Daniel joined Bancroft when he was seven years old and quickly became a valued member of the community. He was a true scholar and demonstrated an admirable dedication to academic pursuits.

“His positive personality and kind nature will leave a lasting impact on us. The loss of such a young pupil is always difficult for us to accept. We are currently in this most difficult period. We are doing everything we can to support the entire community through the situation.”

The ripple effects of the stabbing continued to be felt.

Daniel’s mother worked at Holy Family Catholic School in Walthamstow, east London. A statement on the school’s website reads:

“Mrs. Anjorin’s son was suddenly taken from this world on his way to school this morning. Please keep Mrs. Anjorin, her husband, and their other children in your prayers.”

Grace’s father, Dr Sanjoy Kumar, said the boy’s family and friends would be distraught. He told ITV: I can’t even imagine what my parents are going through. This is the hardest thing for any parent to endure. ”

Daniel’s friends said he was an avid soccer fan. Sian Thompson, 19, told the Evening Standard: He was very caring. He loves soccer and was like a mini-Messi when he was younger. He also loved Arsenal.

“He was very bright with a great future ahead of him and was very good at solving math problems. We are heartbroken.”

Family friend Jeanty Charambous said: “Daniel was a wonderful young man. He was good at studies. He was good at sports. He was loved by so many people and had a wonderful family.

“The family is in shock…He was a very young boy who was taken away from his family.”

Another friend, Ade Caxton Cole, said the Anjorin family found solace in their faith. “They have hope, and we have hope, as long as we have hope in Christ, that someday we will all meet him,” he said.

Detectives were attempting to interview the man suspected of carrying out the stabbing in Hainaut on Tuesday after doctors deemed him fit to be released from hospital and formally taken into police custody.

The 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene of the 22-minute violence that left Daniel dead and four others injured.

Detectives are consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service’s homicide unit to consider whether to lay criminal charges.

The suspect was injured when his car crashed into a house in a London suburb, and video footage showed him clutching a knife and moving around screaming in panic and fear.

He was subdued by firing a Taser (electric stun gun) and then taken into custody. Two police officers at the scene were seriously injured.

Two people are recovering in the hospital, and one female police officer suffered serious injuries to her arms and legs. Surgeons tried to save her arm, but she had to reconnect her nerves and blood vessels during emergency surgery.

DCI Larry Smith, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was an incredibly tragic incident that left a young boy dead and his family devastated.”

The Metropolitan Police said: “We are aware that a 33-year-old man was struck after the suspect crashed his van into a property in Lane Close. He was then attacked by the suspect and suffered a neck injury.

“A 35-year-old man was attacked on a nearby property and suffered lacerations to his arm.”

Police said the next person to be attacked was Daniel, who lives nearby. It is believed that as he was on his way to school he encountered the scene and a man brandished a sword in his direction.

Officers then attempted to subdue the suspect, but incapacitating spray was ineffective. It was after this that two police officers were attacked. More officers then confronted the suspect. The Metropolitan Police said: “The suspect fled again before being surrounded by other officers at Thurlow Gardens. They used a Taser to overwhelm him.”

The Met Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, praised the bravery of the officers and gave further details about the two injured.

Mr Rowley told LBC radio: [male] An inspector with a severely damaged hand. I met him before the surgery and he seemed fine. But he has a lot of work to do on his hands. There are really serious injuries.

“And I was talking to the families and colleagues of female police officers who had been really badly affected. [her] The arm was really badly damaged and the surgeons spent…hours trying to put her arm back together. It will be a long journey to recovery. ”

There were fears on Tuesday that the female police officer had been seriously injured, losing her hand.

“It’s a really frighteningly serious injury. Based on what the surgeon said yesterday, we think a full recovery may be possible over months, years, and a lot of physical therapy,” Rory said. I’m becoming more and more optimistic.

“I think [the surgeon] They spent hours operating under a microscope to reconnect nerves, blood vessels, and more. It’s truly abnormal. ”
