Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley on Sunday accused former President Trump of “playing politics” over the border crisis after calling on Republican senators to scrap a bipartisan border bill.
Haley made the comments Sunday morning on CNN’s “State of the Union” with host Dana Bash. She agreed with Bash that President Trump is trying to block progress on illegal immigration in order to continue to use it as a political issue.
“He’s totally playing politics. Of course he is, he’s saying this.” [senators] “Don’t do anything, but what they have to do is put in place tough immigration laws,” Haley said.
Haley went on to say that any reform bill must include a “remain in Mexico” clause to ensure that illegal immigrants “never set foot on American soil.”

He also pointed to Republican lawmakers who say they already have all the tools necessary to ensure border security if Biden begins enforcing the law.

“Yes, Biden may go back to some laws…but 3 million illegal immigrants came under Trump,” she said. “That’s because our refugee laws are not strong enough. We need to strengthen our refugee laws so that people don’t come here on loose grounds.”
Haley also referred to statements made last week suggesting that U.S. states have the right to secede from the Union. He made it clear that the U.S. Constitution does not allow states to secede, but that friction between states such as Texas and the federal government stems from Washington’s failure to act in the interests of its voters. added.
