Photos and videos of family reunions are emerging following the release of the last 20 hostages held captive in Gaza by Hamas on Monday. After being in captivity for 738 days, these individuals will return to Israel to receive medical care. Their release is part of a broader effort to conclude a two-year conflict.
Guy Gilboa Dalal, upon meeting his family at the reception desk, was greeted with screams and tight embraces, so intense that they almost seemed to carry him into the next room. Eventually, they paused to take a family photo.
Meanwhile, Israeli twins Gali and Ziv Berman, both 28, were all smiles when they were reunited after being handed over to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Earlier reports indicated the twins had been held apart during their captivity.
When the first seven hostages were set free, they appeared pale, yet not as emaciated as some who had been released earlier in the year.
President Donald Trump, speaking in Israel’s parliament during a 40-minute address, declared this moment would be remembered for generations as a pivotal change.
Trump also expressed gratitude to families at the Capitol for their efforts in reuniting with their loved ones.
Amidst this emotional landscape, Israel has begun to release numerous Palestinian prisoners, although pressing questions linger about the future. There’s a real concern that the situation could devolve into conflict again, despite the international community’s desire for peace.
The conflict originally began on October 7, 2023, when militants from Hamas executed a surprise attack on southern Israel, causing the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, predominantly civilians, and taking 251 hostages.
