Harris Highlights Trump’s Influence on Kimmel’s Suspension
Former Vice President Kamala Harris suggested that Jimmy Kimmel was briefly suspended due to President Donald Trump’s inability to take a joke during a recent speech. At the Parliamentary Black Caucus Foundation’s Phoenix Awards Gala, Harris spoke about the president without naming him directly, but heavily implied that his “fragile ego” was the driving force behind Kimmel’s temporary absence from the airwaves.
“People spoke with their pocketbook this week when a president with a fragile ego couldn’t handle a joke,” she noted, implying that the federal government was used to stifle the voices of citizens.
Kimmel’s comments drew ire from right-wing critics after he suggested on his show that political narratives were attempting to distance the suspect in an incident involving Charlie Kirk from the “Maga Gang,” despite the suspect’s confirmed left-wing beliefs. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Magga gang, who tried to frame the child who murdered Charlie Kirk as someone other than them,” he stated.
Following the backlash, broadcasting companies Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group expressed concerns regarding the timing and sensitivity of Kimmel’s remarks, leading Disney to pause the show temporarily, though it returned the following Tuesday.
Media commentators and Democratic figures voiced their discontent over Trump’s role in Kimmel’s suspension, especially after FCC chairman Brendan Kerr issued what many considered a veiled threat against the show.
In her speech, Harris also urged the crowd to take an active role in upcoming elections, referring to the president as “unconfirmed, incompetent, and indifferent.” She emphasized the importance of courage and leadership in fighting for truth, stating, “We must fight fire with fire.”
