On Thursday's CNN broadcast of “Inside Politics,” Harris-Waltz campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu said in response to a question about voters who said they could have afforded more housing under Trump before the pandemic, “They believe that, but of course that's not accurate. The economy was terrible under Donald Trump.”
Host Dana Bash said: “[I]If you look at voters who are unsure who to vote for, and if what I call the affordability crisis is their biggest concern, all they know about Donald Trump is that people had more money when he was president until the pandemic hit, and they don't know what she's going to bring to the table.”
“First of all, that's what they think, but of course that's not accurate. The economy was terrible when Donald Trump was president,” Landrieu responded.
Bash then interjected: “If you look at the numbers alone, they're not accurate, but as people are.”
Landrieu then interjected: “Well, that's what the campaign is about, and that's why you have to go out and tell people. That's why she put out a plan. And her number one goal is to create an opportunity economy and really lower costs for people, and with the plan that she and President Biden have implemented to take on the pharmaceutical industry, the plan to help people get housing, the plan to help people with tax credits for child care, all of these upcoming efforts, we're going to address concerns, but you have to go out and sell it.”
