Harris is the Leading Candidate in the California Gubernatorial Election

Polls Show Kamala Harris Leading in California Governor Race

Recent polling indicates that former Vice President Kamala Harris is emerging as a strong candidate in the California governor race, gaining support from both parties.

In an opinion survey conducted by the University of California between May 27 and June 2, 2025, Harris garnered 41% of the votes. In the same period, another group of California adults provided their insights, contributing to a broader perspective on potential candidates.

Interestingly, a portion of respondents, 14%, indicated they were likely not to vote, while another 16% were unsure about their choices.

The survey initially included responses from 2,143 California adults, and a second portion added input from 2,000 more. In discussing potential candidates, 40% of respondents expressed uncertainty, while 24% showed support for Harris. Notably, billionaire developer Rick Caruso, who previously ran for mayor of Los Angeles in 2022, received 9% of the votes.

Additionally, 6% of those surveyed stated they would not participate in the vote, while another 6% leaned towards supporting former California governor Rep. Katie Porter.

In this context, 4% expressed support for Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who announced plans to run for the Republican nomination earlier this year.

Moreover, political figure Richard Grenell has mentioned that he would consider entering the race if Harris decides to run as well.

Recent discussions have suggested that Harris is weighing her options for entering the California governor’s race, with reports indicating a decision deadline around the end of summer.

According to Simon Kent from Breitbart News, a study by Emerson College Polling and Inside California Politics previously noted that Harris stands as a leading contender among Democrats looking to replace Governor Gavin Newsom.
