On Friday's episode of HBO's “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said the solution offered by Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris for the post-war situation of Israel and Hamas was so bad that he said, “If that's what you're saying, just shut up. Everyone who talks about Israel these days is either preoccupied with it or not addressing the real issues.”
Maher said, “Here's what Kamala Harris said this week about what we should do when the war is over: We won't reoccupy Gaza, we won't change the territorial borders of Gaza, and we'll do it in a way that creates stability and ensures safety for all involved in the region. If you have to say that, then I think you should just shut up and not say anything. Everyone who talks about Israel these days is just talking nonsense or just saying, 'I don't want children to die, obviously, who does? Nobody wants children to die, nobody wants this war to continue. But that doesn't address the essence of the problem. The problem is that one side wants a two-state solution. At least it always has. Now it's a little more right-wing, but we're talking about Israel, and that's their position. One side never did, and it still doesn't. One side uses terror to achieve its aims, and one side retaliates against terror. One side is accused of genocide, but it didn't actually commit genocide. The other side actually wants to do it. People keep saying Israel has a right to self-defense. … And every time Israel defends itself, they argue against it.”
