Harvard Medical School Explosion Investigation Continues
Two suspects remain unidentified following the bombing incident at Harvard Medical School in Boston over the weekend. Police have since deemed the campus safe for students and faculty to return.
The explosion took place at the Goldenson Building shortly after 2:45 a.m. on Saturday. Harvard officials reported that two masked individuals were observed fleeing the scene after the blast, which occurred in a narrow area of a fourth-floor hallway.
Authorities indicated that the affected area has been evacuated and is now fully operational. Importantly, there was no structural damage, and all laboratories and equipment in the building remain unharmed.
The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) has reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety and that it is safe to resume normal activities.
HUPD has released surveillance images showing two suspects wearing masks and headgear as they fled the building during the incident.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the explosion. The Boston Fire Department’s Arson Division has suggested the explosion appears to be intentional, with evidence pointing to a single device being used. Additional searches of the building did not uncover any other threats.
While the investigation continues, HUPD will enhance its security presence on the Longwood campus.
