A bill in the Hawaii state legislature that could remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 presidential ballot narrowly survived a procedural vote on Tuesday.
HawaiianNewsNow reports that the Hawaii State Senate Judiciary Committee approved Senate Bill 2392 by a single vote, moving the bill to the full floor. Under the proposal, decisions regarding President Trump’s potential disqualification would fall to the top election official.
Supporters of the bill argued that Trump’s involvement in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 constituted an insurrection and should prevent him from running for or winning the presidential election. .
The bill comes as several other states have launched efforts to block Trump, the current Republican front-runner, from appearing on the November ballot.

“This is tyrannical, to say the least,” said resident Jamie Detwiler, who testified before the vote, according to the report. “He has not been convicted and has not been charged with rioting (cheers). There is no evidence that he was rioting, so don’t waste your time on this poorly written bill.” please.”
The bill received more than 300 complaints and negative testimonials, with only about 20 people voting in favor, according to HawaiianNewsNow.
