Arch Kennedy’s Journey from LGBTQ Life to Faith

Arch Kennedy openly embraced his identity as a gay man for many years, but everything shifted when he discovered his faith in Christ.

“Living that lifestyle is intimidating,” Kennedy said. “I was fully invested in it, expressing my identity primarily through my sexuality and experiences at bars.” On a related note, Ally Beth Stucky from BlazeTV questioned whether substance use was prevalent in the LGBTQ community.

“It’s like it all revolves around gender and, unfortunately, drugs and alcohol. Every event seemed centered around those themes,” Kennedy elaborated, noting a lack of genuine connection and absence of any divine influence in that world.

He shared with Stucky that many individuals within the gay community had faced harsh experiences with the church and often masked their feelings with alcohol or drugs. “People felt unaccepted and without safe spaces,” he reflected. “So, it’s no wonder that they turned to substances for solace.”

Kennedy expressed a belief that biology plays a significant part in same-sex attraction. He pointed out parallels with genetics and alcoholism, questioning the nature of choice in sexual orientation: “Once you cross that line, does choice truly exist? Why would it be different for homosexuality?”

At the core, Kennedy highlighted that for Christians, the emphasis should be on repentance and embracing a new life, regardless of the underlying causes of one’s feelings or actions.

Despite being entrenched in his lifestyle until his early 50s, Kennedy viewed his faith journey as transformative: “It became the best thing that ever happened to me,” he stated. “As I dove deeper into the Bible, I sensed the Holy Spirit working within me, prompting genuine conviction.” By the third year of his study, he recognized a struggle with sin.

“I realized I needed to embrace singleness,” he admitted, acknowledging ongoing challenges. “I still face temptations but feel more at peace now. I wonder how many individuals in the LGBTQ community can relate to my path. I have a ways to go, but I’m trying.”
