Hegseth likens ‘Trump-hating media’ to biblical Pharisees during his speech

Army Secretary Critiques Media Coverage

During a news conference at the Pentagon, Army Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed his discontent with how the media reports on military actions, drawing a comparison to the Biblical Pharisees who he claims were more interested in their own agenda than genuine reporting.

“Just a note to the media: I can’t help but see this ongoing stream of negative coverage. Even amidst significant achievements by our military, some can’t help but push a certain narrative,” Hegseth remarked, referencing the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The U.S. is currently observing a ceasefire with Iran, and reports suggest that peace discussions could resume as early as Thursday. Hegseth pointed out that some journalists appear conflicted about their stance, saying, “It seems tough for them to decide on which side they’re on.”

“This seems deeply unpatriotic to me. This very press corps, although not strictly the same as before, but certainly reminiscent of those who claimed to reflect on the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan during President Biden’s administration,” he noted.

Hegseth highlighted the irony in how the media termed the evacuation as “the largest airlift in American history,” suggesting a biased portrayal that was more favorable to one faction.

He shared a personal reflection from a recent church visit, alluding to a scripture where Jesus confronted the Pharisees. Hegseth recalled, “The Pharisees watched to see if Jesus would heal on the Sabbath, not out of compassion, but to find fault.” He continued with this analogy, stating that some media outlets resemble those ancient critics, focused more on reporting for the sake of their agendas rather than true reflection.

Hegseth expressed concern over the current sentiments in media, claiming that “the hearts of some journalists appear hardened,” disregarding the successes of America’s military forces. He urged the media to redirect their focus, acknowledging the current military successes and the potential for a historic deal concerning Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

He concluded with a plea, asking for recognition of the positive steps being taken, and for the press to adopt a more constructive tone moving forward.
