The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) apparently changed the name of Admiral Rachel Levine under the guidance of a former assistant secretary for health during President Biden’s administration, who is a transgender woman.
The Humphrey Building in Washington, D.C., is adorned with portraits of various federal employees, including one of Levine, as reported by NPR recently.
An HHS spokesperson confirmed to NPR that Levine’s official portrait has been updated. A digital image of that portrait shows her previous name listed beneath it, displayed under the glass frame, according to the report.
Adrian Shanker, speaking on Levine’s behalf, described the name change as an “act of bias against her.” In contrast, HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon stated that the focus is on the information HHS shares, both internally and externally. “We’re committed to reversing the harmful policies enacted under Mr. Levine and ensuring biological reality shapes our public health approach,” he added.
It’s worth mentioning that NPR chose not to use the name “Richard” in its article.
According to Breitbart News, in March 2021, the U.S. Senate confirmed Biden’s nomination of Levine as the assistant secretary of health at HHS.
During his confirmation hearing, Levine, faced with significant opposition from Senate Republicans, challenged Senator Rand Paul regarding the risks associated with “transgender” therapies for children.
Critics argued that Levine promoted a January 2020 study advocating for the benefits of puberty-blocking medication for young children, also suggesting the “acceleration” of cross-sex hormones for homeless teens grappling with gender dysphoria and who were estranged from their families.
At the 2022 DNC Pride Month event, Levine emphasized that “gender-affirming care is lifesaving, medically necessary, age-appropriate, and an essential tool for healthcare professionals,” as reported by Breitbart News.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who tragically lost his life in September, was banned from his Twitter account in 2022 after speaking candidly about Levine’s biological background and referring to him as a man.
Kirk remarked, “Richard Levine spent 54 years as a man. He had a wife and a family. He transitioned in 2011, and now, Joe Biden has named Levine a four-star admiral, while USA Today named ‘Rachel’ Levine their ‘Woman of the Year.’ Where are the feminists?” Kirk later told Breitbart News, “Twitter has shown they don’t value truth. They value narratives. They disregard science for ideology, ignoring biology in favor of gender theory. They’re not seeking truth; they want conformity, which we cannot provide.”
