Attorney Withdraws from Murder Case Involving Nick Reiner
On Wednesday, prominent attorney Alan Jackson announced he had to withdraw from representing Nick Reiner, who is facing murder charges for the deaths of his parents, Hollywood figures Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer Reiner. Jackson mentioned that “circumstances beyond our control—and more importantly, beyond Nick’s control—have sadly made it impossible for us to continue to represent Nick.”
While Jackson did not provide specific details regarding his withdrawal, he emphasized that he and his team remain committed to advocating for Reiner’s best interests. He asserted, “We not only believe, we know, that the legal process will reveal the true facts of Nick’s case. We’ve investigated thoroughly, and according to California law, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder. Print that!”
As for the legal proceedings, Nick Reiner, aged 32, did not enter a plea during his court appearance. A public defender, Kimberly Greene, has since been appointed to represent him. Reiner is scheduled to return to court on February 23 and will remain in custody without bail.
Jackson’s exit from the case might suggest a potential distancing by the Reiner family from Nick, who has two brothers. Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances of multiple murders. When asked if he would waive his right to a speedy trial, he simply replied, “Yes, I agree, sir.”
Following an earlier court appearance on December 17, Reiner was restrained in shackles and given a suicide smock, remaining in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Reports indicate he may enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity next month.
The events leading up to his current situation include an incident where his parents were found deceased in the early hours of December 14, with initial findings indicating “multiple sharp force trauma” as the cause of death. Reports also pointed out that there were no disclosed motives for the killings.
Allegations suggest blood stains were discovered in the hotel room where Nick Reiner checked in after an altercation with his father at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party. Witnesses from the party remarked on Nick’s erratic behavior, indicating concern over his mental state. One source mentioned that Rob Reiner expressed dissatisfaction with his son’s behavior during the event.
After the incident, Nick checked into the Pierside Santa Monica Hotel, and later authorities discovered his parents’ bodies. Hotel staff reported finding blood in his room, further complicating the situation.
As of now, the prosecution has not made a decision regarding whether to pursue the death penalty, and the community remains on edge as the case unfolds.
