IRS Officer Dismissed After Controversial Comments
Niki Wilkinson, a senior officer at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has been dismissed following reports of her social media activity where she criticized the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers.
In her comments, Wilkinson accused President Trump and members of the GOP of misrepresenting situations, particularly citing “the existence of fear” surrounding audits. Her background includes being associated with Lois Lerner’s team during investigations into conservative groups during the Obama administration. There was a time when she was on leave from her position under Trump.
“It’s absurd!” she remarked. “It’s amusing how some senators worry they’re mischaracterizing their work. They seem unaware of what was unearthed in these audits. The IRS actually identified several cases of fraud within the pass-through sector, yet the audits weren’t as thorough as they could have been.”
Wilkinson frequently utilized LinkedIn to express her views on Trump and his administration, recently posting accusations of corruption alongside other criticisms that aligned with Trump’s detractors. While she acknowledged that she was not authorized to discuss IRS matters, she felt compelled to defend her stances publicly.
She raised concerns regarding Trump’s actions, mentioning potential corruption, gerrymandering, as well as controversial pardons. Interestingly, she couldn’t recall similar behavior from previous presidents.
In her defense of the IRS’s approach to audits, she countered assertions that they targeted Democrats as well, insisting that the oversight was handled by someone detached from her role. Wilkinson also provided a detailed organizational structure to showcase the layers within the IRS hierarchy.
As of now, there has been no comment from Wilkinson regarding her current employment situation.
