Parental engagement in children’s education is crucial for addressing gender ideology in schools, according to a representative from the Department of Education. The Trump administration made strong efforts to enforce Title IX, which aims to protect women from discrimination in educational institutions that receive federal funding. However, many school officials seem more focused on accommodating transgender issues instead. The Department has committed to confronting schools that ignore these directives, but emphasized that it’s vital for parents to be aware of what their children are learning and to participate in this challenge.
Officials shared this perspective during a meeting, pointing out that if more parents understood what was happening in schools and expressed their concerns, it could lead to greater awareness. “This is why empowering parents and girls is key,” the official remarked. They noted that increased transparency could encourage more people to speak out, even if they preferred anonymity.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon also called on Congress to take action during her discussion with officials on a recent Wednesday. When asked about how to combat changing definitions in the legal framework, she stressed the need to codify the definition of sex in law. “There’s still a lot of discussion about what defines a man and a woman,” she said, asserting that the president’s executive order provides a clear stance: men are men, women are women, based on biological realities. While there’s clarity in that message, schools continue to navigate various challenges.
A senior official from the Department reiterated their commitment to supporting the codification of gender definitions into law, highlighting the necessity for congressional backing. They mentioned, “While we can work on this for several years, we ultimately need Congress to solidify these definitions in law,” recognizing that enforcement relies heavily on legislative support.
On the first day of his term, Trump’s executive order established that the federal government would recognize only two biological sexes. This initiative aimed to direct schools toward implementing rules based on traditional gender definitions, countering the Biden administration’s interpretation of “gender identity.”
Recently, the Daily Caller News Foundation has highlighted strategies some Title IX coordinators and university consultants are developing to bypass the Trump administration’s definitions, including attempts to form an “LGBTQ+ church” to leverage freedom of speech and religious liberties concerning transgender issues.
Parents played a critical role in uncovering the influence of leftist ideologies in education, especially during the pandemic when remote learning gave them insights into the curriculum. Many were taken aback to discover controversial themes related to race included within gender ideology and diversity training.
Under the Biden administration, Attorney General Merrick Garland had instructed the FBI to monitor parents who protested at school board meetings about racial and gender theories being taught in schools. House Republicans later criticized this initiative, stating that it lacked legitimate justification.
The administration is currently pursuing legal measures against certain violations and expressing intentions to reinforce protections for women in educational environments. This was communicated in a recent statement focusing on June as “Title IX Month,” which diverged from the earlier administration’s theme of Pride Month.
