Tragic Incident Claims Life of High School Lacrosse Player
A promising high school lacrosse player in Washington has tragically passed away following a routine play during a game. Elliott Abramson, a 17-year-old midfielder at Mercer Island High School near Seattle, was involved in a college recruiting event on June 1 when the turning point occurred.
The 6-foot-2 sophomore had been playing lacrosse since he was a child. Unfortunately, during play, a fast-moving ball struck him at the base of his neck after slipping beneath the back edge of his helmet.
Witnesses reported that he lost consciousness almost immediately and collapsed on the field. Emergency services transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he underwent surgery and remained in intensive care for about a week.
His family and the school confirmed his passing on June 7. Elliott’s mother, Jessica Abramson-Rott, shared a heartfelt tribute online, noting that her son was now with his biological father, Joseph Abramson, who had died when Elliott was just three years old.
In her poignant message, she wrote, “Elliott’s time on earth will be over far too soon, but we take solace in the fact that he will be in heaven laughing with his dad and playing music with a smile that lights up the room. I’m sure he’ll be up in the sky playing ‘wall ball’ and cheering on all his friends.”
This heartbreaking incident marks the second time this year that a high school athlete has lost their life in a similar manner. In 2022, a 16-year-old lacrosse player from Ohio, Dylan Becerik, also suffered a fatal injury during a game.
