High School Substitute Teacher Assaulted, Assailant Student Let Free

A 75-year-old substitute teacher at an Indianapolis high school was recently assaulted by a student. However, the students were not arrested, and even if they were, they received only a “slap on the wrist.”

February 1centRob Gooding, 75, was a substitute teacher in a class at Perry Meridian High School when a student reportedly attacked him using a Chromebook laptop as a weapon.

The 75-year-old man told reporters that he had informed the school of his intention to press charges against the young perpetrator.

“Has anything like this ever happened before? No, no,” Gooding said.

Gooding said he was teaching a class on business practices when a student attacked him and began punching him.

“When I saw him come up, he said, ‘No more.’ Then he came down, and I blocked the Chromebook. There was a hole in it. And then… He pushed me down like this and all of a sudden he got on top of me and hit me with his left hand,” Gooding said.

In a public image shared by Ms Gooding on social media platforms, she is shown in profile, with her severe black eyes protruding outward.

“This guy’s kid was 6-foot-2, 280 pounds,” Gooding said.

After paramedics arrived, Gooding said a school district police officer assisted him and stood by his side. The substitute teacher reiterated that he wanted to press charges immediately.

“Then he said to me, ‘We have been directed by the higher ups, the district, not to handcuff or arrest children.’ I said, ‘What?’ ‘And he said, ‘Yes, that came from higher up,”’ Gooding said.

After the violent attack, Perry Township Schools released a statement regarding the assault.

“We are disturbed by the allegations regarding Kelly Services employees and Perry Meridian High School students. Perry Police Department responded quickly to the incident. The police report was forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. , prosecutors will decide to file criminal charges. For confidentiality reasons, Perry Township Schools cannot comment on disciplinary actions against students. However, it can be said that the district has a zero-tolerance policy for violence. Goodwin said he has not yet arrested the student and wants to press charges.

“Oh yeah! And I haven’t heard anything. If I were in Meridian and he did the same thing to me, where would he be? He has to take responsibility for his actions. , that’s how I feel too,” Gooding declared.

A spokesperson for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said the incident is still under investigation.

The student’s identity and photograph have not been released because of his age, authorities said.
