Hillary Clinton Praises Trump’s Gaza Peace Deal
In a recent interview, Hillary Clinton unexpectedly complimented Donald Trump for his approach to the Gaza peace deal. During her discussion on CBS News 24/7, she said, “I sincerely admire President Trump and his administration.”
Clinton highlighted Trump’s commitment to a 20-point plan, noting a step forward that mirrors sentiments expressed by Arab leaders in the area. She mentioned the importance of envisioning what comes next.
These remarks followed Hamas’s surprising agreement to Trump’s peace plan, which aims to end a two-year conflict that’s caused significant hardship in the Gaza Strip. The deal has been received positively by both Gazans and Israelis. It promises to release the remaining 48 Israeli hostages as soon as Monday and outlines a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Under the terms, Hamas will be disarmed, and a transitional government led by an international organization will oversee Gaza. While an independent Palestinian state is described as an “aspiration” for the people of Gaza, the specifics of the agreement are still vague.
Clinton, who previously advocated for a two-state solution while serving as Secretary of State under Barack Obama, urged the Trump administration to ensure that both Israel and the Gazans uphold the agreement’s terms.
She emphasized, “Now is the time to support this process and unite in a great global effort to bring peace, security, stability, and a better future to the Middle East.” This sentiment, she noted, should extend beyond just domestic bipartisanship but should also resonate internationally.
Additionally, she acknowledged the smart decision by Trump’s team to engage Israel following an aggressive attack on Hamas leaders during negotiations in Qatar last September. Clinton remarked, “This was a chance for both President Trump and his representatives to engage various regional powers, making it clear to Israel that this conflict must end.”
Clinton’s positive evaluation of Trump’s actions isn’t unique among Democrats. Jake Sullivan, a former national security adviser under President Biden, also acknowledged Trump’s role in bringing the conflict to a close, albeit with some hesitation. Sullivan remarked, “After a long time, we have finally reached an agreement.”
Even President Obama, through a post on X, expressed his approval of the agreement without directly naming Trump.
