Hillary Clinton, who once ran for president as a Democrat, has criticized President Trump for his plan to accept a luxury jet from Qatar, which is set to replace Air Force 1.
On social media, Clinton remarked, “No one gives away a $400 million jet without expecting something in return.”
“Let’s be serious here.”
The announcement regarding Trump’s intentions to take a $400 million Boeing 747-8 from the Qatari royal family, intended as an alternative to Air Force 1, has raised alarms among some Democrats on Capitol Hill.
They view this development as indicative of potential corruption. This week, nine Senate Democrats requested the Pentagon Watchdog to investigate the possible acceptance of the plane and the Pentagon’s involvement in the matter.
Trump’s potential acceptance of the jet, which he plans to move to his presidential library post-term, has also sparked criticism from some Senate Republicans.
Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) expressed discomfort with the idea, citing national security concerns related to potential listening devices and safety issues, which he hopes to address.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) mentioned on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that this gift poses “significant espionage and surveillance concerns.”
Clinton, who lost the 2016 election to Trump, has frequently criticized him since. In a speech in Berlin in March, she stated that the regime was “cozy with dictators,” noting that the current government seems to prioritize war over peace.
She went on to say that this gives undue power to individuals controlling information flow, resulting in widespread addiction and fostering fear and hatred.
In March, Trump revoked Clinton’s security clearance, asserting that it was no longer in the “national interest” for her to have access to classified information.
In 2016, the Clinton Foundation confirmed that Clinton accepted a $1 million donation from Qatar during her tenure as Secretary of State.
