Hillary Clinton Calls for Congressional Hearing on Epstein Link

In a recent development, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is urging Congress to hold a hearing regarding her connections, along with her husband Bill, to the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. This comes despite her previous agreement to provide a private deposition.

On Monday, the Clintons agreed to cooperate to avoid potential contempt of Congress charges related to the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Epstein. However, by Friday, Hillary accused Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) of “moving the goalposts” and suggested he was turning accountability into a “distraction” concerning the subpoenas issued last August.

“For six months, we engaged Republicans on the Oversight Committee in good faith, telling them under oath what we knew,” she stated in a message, calling for an end to what she perceives as gamesmanship.

Clinton further challenged Comer, saying, “If you want this fight, let’s do it in public. You love to talk about transparency. There’s nothing more transparent than a hearing with the cameras on. We’ll be there.”

Notably, Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, had taken similar stances against the Oversight Committee prior to his own deposition earlier this year.

Former Florida Republican Representative Matt Gaetz noted Clinton’s initial stance, drawing on a slogan from Democrats’ unsuccessful 2016 presidential campaign, implying some Republicans might actually welcome the hearings.

A spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee, however, countered that it is the Clintons who are trying to “spin the facts” regarding the situation, stating that they were issued bipartisan subpoenas for depositions—not public hearings.

Recently, the Clintons’ lawyers had sent a statement to the committee denying any awareness of Epstein or Maxwell’s nefarious activities. Following threats of a contempt lawsuit, they agreed to participate in filmed and transcribed depositions at the end of February.

These depositions were conducted in compliance with House and committee rules, with other witnesses, including former Attorney General Bill Barr, also participating in the investigation.

The issue has drawn responses from various political figures. President Trump expressed discomfort over Bill Clinton’s situation, stating that he felt a connection with him. He acknowledged his own legal troubles, alluding to the potential for similar scrutiny post-presidency.

Lately, Comer has voiced his interest in exploring Epstein’s personal ties to Maxwell. He pointed out previous reports of their travels together, which included photos showing former President Clinton with individuals associated with Epstein.

Bill Clinton has maintained that his interactions with Epstein were strictly for “philanthropic” reasons, denying any deeper engagement with him or Maxwell. He stated that he hasn’t spoken to Epstein for over a decade leading up to Epstein’s arrest in 2019.

While the Clintons have denied visiting Epstein’s Caribbean island, they acknowledged a connection through a mutual friend. Both former presidents attested, under penalty of perjury, that they had no specific interactions with Epstein or Maxwell during their time in the White House.

There’s no mention in their declarations regarding notable events, such as Maxwell’s attendance at Chelsea Clinton’s wedding in 2010 or the footage showing the Clintons and Epstein together at a wedding in Morocco.

Hunter Biden similarly missed a deposition last December but later appeared in court, a move that followed his request for a public hearing.

The Clintons had previously missed two proposed deposition dates before Comer initiated contempt proceedings.
