New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) office runs digital advertising at Union Station in Washington, DC, and is recruiting federal employees to work in New York, amid the Trump administration's efforts to slim the federal government.
The ads that began running on Monday at Union Station's Digital Director's Display feature images of the Statue of Liberty with captions. We say you are hired! New York wants you! ”
“Elon Musk and his ignorant career killer executives know nothing about how the government works, how it serves, or the tireless federal employees that keep it running,” Hochur said in a statement. “Here in New York, we don't denigrate civil servants. We value them and their efforts. So when Doge says, “You've been fired,” New York is ready to say, “You're hired.” And we make sure that talented and experienced federal workers know the many opportunities available to the state workforce. ”
The ad is Hochul's latest effort to reach out to federal employees affected by job offers spurred by government efficiency (DOGE). Hochul appealed to government officials last week in a recruitment video.
“Whatever your skills are, we value public services,” Hochul said in the video. “Participate families in New York.”
Musk-led Doge is moving at a fierce pace to reduce the size of the federal government, affecting federal workers across states across the country. Democrats have largely condemned Doge's efforts, but Republican governors have mostly embraced Doge and even tried to replicate it in their own state. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) became the latest governor to replicate Doge's efforts in his state last week.
Last week, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) supported Doge's efforts, despite the state boasting large federal and military workers, but promoted his “Virginia Job Initiative” as a potential safety net for layoff workers.
