Discussion on Border Security at the White House
Tom Homan, a notable figure in Washington, spoke at a law-focused event at the White House on Thursday, stressing the significance of border security measures in what he referred to as a “big beautiful bill.”
Invited by Trump to speak, Homan addressed attendees in the Eastern Room, who had gathered from across the nation to support legislation benefitting workers.
In his speech, Homan called on lawmakers to push forward with the bill containing border security provisions. His comments included advocating for the completion of Trump’s border wall and the deportation of at least a million individuals.
“I believe this issue regarding the big beautiful bill should transcend party lines… What’s holding Congress back? People are losing their lives every day. The ICE is arresting significantly more criminals. And the Biden administration is contributing to that,” Homan noted.
He stressed that progress could be made from a border security standpoint.
“We have over 600,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records in this country. Yet, we’ve managed to deport fewer than 5,000. This should be a challenging task. The more resources we get, the more agents we have on duty. More agents lead to more arrests, ensuring safer streets in our country every day.”
Homan expressed his frustration, saying he was “tired of seeing the pain of families.” He highlighted the real-life consequences, referencing parents who have lost children.
“When it comes to family separation, they have buried their children. Since I began working in 1984, under six different presidents, none achieved what the Trump administration did,” he stated.
He also advocated for increased border walls, arguing they are vital for preventing illegal immigration and smuggling.
“Currently, we have the safest border in our nation’s history. But we need more wall. Walls save lives. Without them, women and children are at risk. What awaits them in areas without borders? Border Patrol agents respond to emergencies and save lives every day.”
Homan further remarked on drug enforcement, calling for efforts against fentanyl to be amplified, stating that the goal should be a zero presence of this drug.
“We’ve already cut down fentanyl situations by half… It should be completely eliminated from our country. We need the funds to bolster our border security. This effort is about preventing fentanyl, halting human trafficking, and stopping suspected terrorists at the border.”
As Homan concluded his speech, Trump smiled and noted that his “border emperor seemed very passionate” and joked that he had forgotten to wave. Homan returned to embrace the president, highlighting a moment of camaraderie on stage.
