Homeless man ripped out victim’s eyeball during unprovoked attack, police say

According to Arizona State Police, an unattacked attack in Phoenix caused the victim torn the victim’s right eye from the socket by a 39-year-old homeless suspect.

According to court documents, Daniel Ranks allegedly attacked the victim at about 1am on April 11, near the intersection of 48th Avenue and Broadway Road.

The victim was able to go to his house, where he called his girlfriend to the police. When they arrived they said they found the victim holding his eyeballs in a bloody towel.

The victim said Rank grabbed him from behind and forced his eyeballs torn. According to court documents, Rank punched the man after the victim fell to the ground.

“When asked to delete it [sic] The towel observed that the victim’s eyeball had been completely removed from his eye sockets and was hanging from his face.

Police said they arrested Rank on the 23rd and near Dunlap Avenue three days later. The victim was can Select a rank from the lineup.

Ranks reportedly told police to “close the f**k up” and he said he didn’t understand his Miranda rights.

He was placed in prison for aggravated assault and held on $500,000 in cash bonds.

The victim said the attacks devastated his life.

“The victim said this loss of use of the right eye and the broken jaw would affect his quality of life forever, and he is unsure whether he will be able to work again or perform many basic functions of life,” the court documents said. “The victim said during this incident that he feared his life and safety, believing that Daniel could have killed him, that the attack was not entirely provoked, and that he did not threaten Daniel and had no weapon in the form of being perceived as a threat.”

KSAZ-TV Report A week before the alleged horrific incident, it was discovered that he was released from prison on his own perception of aggravated assault and organized retail theft.
