Fernando Mendoza, the quarterback for Indiana University, has a clear message about his newfound success in college football—he credits it to “the man upstairs.”

“I’m really thankful to God for everything this season. I truly give all the glory to Him,” Mendoza shared. He spoke to reporters ahead of the matchup against the University of Miami in the 2026 National Championship.

“I really give the Lord a lot of what I’ve accomplished in my life this season.”

During a recent press conference, Mendoza, who transferred to Indiana University, highlighted that his achievements stem from teamwork, including support from his local Catholic parish.

“I’m Catholic,” Mendoza commented. “They have helped me in so many ways, whether it’s confession or just being there every Sunday at Mass.” This isn’t the first time he’s acknowledged the community at St. Paul Catholic Center.

Mendoza, who attends Mass weekly, mentioned that he prays before every game. His brother, Alberto, currently a backup quarterback at Indiana State, is his “teammate for life.” Mendoza added, “He’s faced tough days and challenges, yet he pushes through.”

“I love you, brother. Thank you for always keeping it real, no matter what.”

The NCAA National Football Championship will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM ET. It will be aired on ESPN.
