Hospital group launches ad campaign for disaster relief tax credits

A major hospital trade group this week launched a six-figure ad campaign asking Congress to extend disaster relief tax credits to help hospitals recover from Hurricanes Helen and Milton.

The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) said Tuesday that assistance is needed to help employers in affected areas rebuild and provide incentives to retain or bring employees back to live and work in affected areas. He said there is.

Specifically, FAH is asking Congress to reinstate the Katrina-era Employee Retention Tax Credit, which was intended to encourage businesses to keep employees on payroll during natural disasters.

FAH also recommended that Congress extend and expand the Work Opportunity Tax Credit for hospitals that hire individuals in certain targeted groups who face barriers to employment, and provide tax credits for hospitals that provide housing to their employees. I'm looking for.

“During Hurricanes Helen and Milton, our hospitals ensured 24/7 quality care and provided basic necessities to our patients, employees, and communities,” FAH's Charlene MacDonald said in a statement. I have worked harder than ever for this.”

“As hospitals now work to recover, rebuild, and prepare for future natural disasters, we hope that Congress will take common sense measures to ensure that hospitals have the resources they need to continue providing uninterrupted patient care. It is important to provide meaningful support by passing bipartisan policies.”

The group hopes to include its priorities in a bipartisan disaster relief bill that lawmakers hope to pass by the end of the year. After severe storms in recent months depleted the nation's disaster relief funds, lawmakers want to replenish funds for communities recovering from disasters.

The White House is asking for $98 billion, but it's unclear whether Republicans will agree to that amount.

A bipartisan group of senators was pushing for a vote this week, but disaster relief is likely to be part of the government funding bill at the end of the year.
