Hosts of ABC’s The View Support Democrat Candidate James Talarico
The co-hosts of ABC’s The View are once again expressing enthusiasm for a Democrat candidate, this time rallying behind the progressive James Talarico, who is competing in the US Senate race in Texas.
Co-host Sunny Hostin expressed optimism, saying, “I think we will see Texas go blue,” referencing September polling data that indicated Talarico was performing well in various aspects. Hostin finished with a confident assertion that Talarico “is going to win this race.”
However, Whoopi Goldberg interjected a note of caution, reminding everyone not to become too complacent. “We’ve seen this before,” she remarked about previous polls. “And suddenly some weird number comes out, and we say, ‘What happened?’”
Co-host Ana Navarro chimed in, recalling how the 2016 election left her with lasting concerns. “You’re not kidding. 2016 left me scarred,” she said, reflecting on Donald Trump’s unexpected victory over Hillary Clinton. She added, “People should have hope, but hope alone won’t win an election. People gotta turn hope into votes.”
Navarro emphasized that relying solely on polls can lead to complacency, which is dangerous for anyone hoping for change. She stressed, “Relying on polls and kind of sitting back is something that nobody can afford to do.”
Interestingly, the optimistic polls that Hostin mentioned have already begun to show signs of tightening. A survey at the end of September indicated that both Talarico and his Republican opponent, Ken Paxton, were tied at 48 percent each.
Despite the polling data, some voices are advising caution among Republicans when interpreting these figures. Former Democrat Governor Rod Blagojevich, for example, has cautioned against trusting the numbers, labeling them as potentially misleading. “Don’t believe the polls. There will be no blue wave,” he stated in a post, adding that such polling aims to inform less and persuade more. He added, “I know what I’m talking about. As a twice elected Dem governor and three time elected Dem Congressman, I never lost an election.”
As the campaign nears its conclusion, Talarico has recently canceled several events, disappearing from the public eye with no new appearances planned. His campaign has stated that he is dealing with the flu and is taking time to recover.
In the meantime, Ken Paxton took the opportunity to launch a jab at Talarico, creating a “missing” poster in response to the Democrat’s abrupt absence from the campaign trail.
