During a recent episode of “The View,” co-hosts found themselves in a heated exchange after conservative guest host Savannah Chrisley defended former President Donald Trump against accusations of racism. The discussion centered around Trump’s observance of Black History Month at the White House.
Chrisley expressed her frustration regarding the label of racism aimed at Trump, citing personal experiences. “I’ve seen him save the life of one of my best friends, a black woman who’s been in my life forever,” she stated, attempting to counter the criticism.
Sunny Hostin, another co-host, interjected, asserting, “He’s a racist,” while Chrisley reiterated her point about Trump’s actions to help her friend.
In response, Whoopi Goldberg also challenged Chrisley’s perspective, pointing out that many view Trump’s administration differently. “When you have an executive branch that targets DEI programs and issues orders that affect national unity, that’s a concern for us,” she noted. Goldberg proceeded to mention controversial actions from Trump’s past, highlighting his posts about the Obamas and a tragic case involving the death penalty.
Hostin strongly reinforced her belief that Trump is indeed a racist. “Let’s not beat around the bush. Donald Trump is a racist, no question in my mind,” she insisted. She referenced a recent post on Truth Social where Trump allegedly shared a racist comparison involving the Obamas, a claim she argued was unfounded.
Chrisley countered, defending Trump and suggesting it was a mistake made by his staff. However, Hostin rebutted, saying, “That’s not true,” leading to further claims about Trump’s racist tendencies.
Eventually, Chrisley softened her stance, acknowledging that the White House could have handled a recent video post better. “I agree that the White House should have taken more care protecting those who lost friendships supporting Trump,” she admitted.
Goldberg wrapped up the segment by reinforcing that the show thrives on differing opinions. Chrisley, who was filling in for Alyssa Farrah Griffin on maternity leave, faced skepticism yet still maintained her position amid conflicting views.
In a follow-up statement, White House Press Secretary Davis Engle criticized Hostin, labeling her as an unqualified commentator and asserting that no president has contributed more to Black Americans than Trump, referencing numerous policies and reforms enacted during his time in office.
