Hour-old baby found alive in shopping bag in freezing cold by dog walker in London

A baby girl, less than an hour old, was found by a dog walker in a shopping bag in sub-zero temperatures in east London, police said.

The abandoned newborn baby, whom hospital staff named Elsa after the main character from the Disney film Frozen, was discovered by a dog walker at the intersection of Greenway and High Street South in Newham.

A dog walker heard the child crying and found him in a bag. According to Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent Simon Crick:.

The infant, less than an hour old, was found wrapped in a blanket inside a shopping bag around 9:15 p.m., police said.

Temperatures dropped to 24 degrees Fahrenheit, and the dog walker “kept the baby girl warm” until an ambulance arrived.

“I'm pleased to report that she was not injured,” Chief Superintendent Simon Crick told a news conference. He also revealed that the baby is “fine.”

Ms Crick said the dog walker had no idea how long the baby had been left there and urged the mother to come forward and seek help.

“We are extremely concerned for her well-being as she must have been through a traumatic ordeal,” Ms Crick said. He said her mother would likely need medical care after giving birth and advised her to “seek help no matter what the situation is.”

Police are monitoring surveillance cameras around the busy intersection and are urging anyone who witnessed anything to come forward.

Last month, a couple in Florida adopted a baby who had been left in the woods an hour after birth.

The baby was found still attached to the placenta after nearby residents heard the baby crying.

Neighbors thought it was a cat's meow, but when it started again, they went outside and decided it was a human meow.

The child was found wrapped in an “old blanket” in temperatures in the 50s.
