House Republican urges probe into 'full impact' of former Hochul aide's China ties

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY) Requested an investigation The arrest and indictment of a former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hockle (Democrat) on charges of acting as a Chinese agent has revealed the “full extent” of her “influence over New York state government and economy.”

“I am writing to you today with deep concerns about the Department of Justice's recent indictment of Linda Sun and allegations that Ms. Sun has used her influence within your administration to advance the interests of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and promote policies favorable to the CCP,” Tenney's letter to Hawkle on Wednesday said.

“These allegations are extremely disturbing and call into question your judgment in hiring and speaking with this individual,” the letter continues. “We urge you to establish a bipartisan commission to investigate you and your administration's actions, and the overall impact of Mr. Sun's influence on New York State government and the economy.”

Tenney's letter continues in Sun And her husband Sun was arrested earlier this week, according to the Associated Press. In an indictment unsealed on Tuesday, prosecutors said Sun worked as an anonymous agent for the Chinese government and Communist Party.

The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York previously told The Hill that Sun and her husband pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

In his letter to Hawkle on Wednesday, Tenney cited Sun's “actions” that have been criticized as “failure to comply with requests from anti-Chinese Communist Party and pro-Taiwan groups.”

“While these actions have only recently come to light, we have yet to learn the full impact that Mr. Sun's actions have had on New York state government and the economy,” Tenney said in the letter. “These revelations also raise questions about numerous policy decisions made by your Administration and what influence, if any, Mr. Sun may have had on those decisions.”

The Hill has reached out to Hockle's press office for further comment.
