The IRS office in Houston was forced to close early over the weekend, just two days before the Tax Day deadline, as fights broke out and people flooded the building seeking help with their taxes.
It happened during an IRS tax assistance event. Hundreds of people lined up early Saturday morning to get help with their taxes by Monday’s deadline, but were blindsided when the office suddenly closed after an altercation between two people waiting in line. Oops.
“I think around 9 or 10 a.m. they opened the gate and a few people started fighting. So after that they told everyone to go home,” said a visitor to the tax center, who paid 2. said Cutrell Johnson, who drove more than an hour. Help me, he told FOX 26.
To further confuse the situation, FOX 26 reported that a large number of people attempted to enter the building at the same time.

“I opened the door and all of a sudden everyone came in and my butt started skipping in a panic,” said Tonya Johnson, who visited the IRS center.
According to the website’s business hours, the office was supposed to close at 4 p.m., but instead closed just before 11 a.m., leaving many people dissatisfied.
“I’m not doing nothing. I’ve been here for two months and I’m not going to play with the IRS,” one taxpayer told FOX 26.

In a statement sent to FOX 26, the IRS said, “Saturday’s delay was caused by an overwhelming demand for taxpayer assistance. The IRS is committed to providing services to those who were not able to receive direct assistance. “I am working hard,” he said in part.
“Unfortunately, they did everything walk-in without an appointment, and that’s the real cause of all these problems,” said Henry Castro, another visitor to the IRS center.
The IRS said it also tried to collect the names and number of people who were unable to get help. The company has promised to provide them with additional support throughout this week and keep its offices and phone lines fully staffed.
