The woman who opened fire at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church earlier this month and was shot and killed at the scene by an off-duty police officer had previously been arrested on gun charges, according to a police report.
Genes Yvonne Moreno, from El Salvador, was arrested by Katy, Texas police on April 2, 2022, after being pulled over in a black Infiniti sedan. Police said his registration was expired and his front license plate was missing.
The officer conducting the traffic stop smelled marijuana “emanating from the interior of the vehicle,” and “observed a tan custom AR15 rifle in plain sight in the passenger side seat,” the incident report states. ing.
Police said the rifle was “equipped with two 30-round magazines” and was loaded when it was found.

Moreno was asked to exit the vehicle after officers noticed a black handgun on the driver’s side floorboard next to a “small plastic bag containing a green leaf-like substance.” When Moreno got out of the car, he was handcuffed.
The handgun was identified as a Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic. It was reported to have one magazine and was loaded.
A second police officer arrived on the scene and placed Moreno behind the patrol unit. After a search of the entire vehicle, a “green leafy substance” was tested and confirmed to be marijuana.
Mr. Moreno was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, failure to meet financial responsibilities, and expired registration.

Her vehicle was towed and taken to the Katy Police Department Jail for booking before being taken to the Fort Bend County Jail.
Police said 0.035 ounces of marijuana were found in a plastic bag belonging to Moreno, and the firearm was recovered to be disposed of at a later date.

Moreno was at Lakewood Church on Feb. 11 with her 7-year-old son. His son was shot in the head and continues to fight for his life.
The Houston Police Department on Monday released body camera footage showing the response to the shooting situation.
