A Houston Police Department police dog helped officers take down a robbery suspect Monday night, but then decided to work overtime.
After “locating, tasing, and apprehending” the suspect, K9 Ronin returned with his handler and rescued an adorable puppy found in the woods while chasing the suspected burglar, according to the HPD police union.
“This was very fortunate for the puppy, as the miscreants tied him to an old box spring and left him in the woods to die,” officials posted on social media.
The photo shows a black and white puppy cowering in the bushes.
The Ronin police officer took the puppy home and spoiled it a little.
Another photo shows a small dog sitting inside a cardboard box at home as Ronin watches from his bed.
Officials say he is “in very good spirits.”
Police are currently looking for a permanent home for the dog.
