Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld had to think on their feet last year to avoid accidentally taunting each other with Christmas presents.
The Bills' star quarterback and the actress have been dating since last year, but there was a time when Allen clearly expressed concern that he needed to take steps to avoid the hex.
In a recent addition to his Beau Society newsletter, Steinfeld revealed that the couple happened to buy each other the same Miyazai knife (retail price: about $430) for Christmas.
“I gave this knife to Josh last Christmas because cooking is something we both love. For Christmas he bought me…the same knife in different colors!” Steinfeld said. I wrote this in my newsletter. Featured in Sports Illustrated.
Just as when things go awry during an improvisation, Allen had to sit up and think out of concern that this was a “bad omen.”
“After we exchanged knives (lol), he told me that if you give your lover a knife, you have to pay for it, or there's an old wives' tale that says it's a break in the relationship. So, to avoid any bad omens, we exchanged quarters,” Steinfeld wrote.
All's well that ends well.
“Just, oh my gosh, I love this knife! I don't know much about chef knives, but it's so nice and makes me feel official,” Steinfeld continued.
The two are relatively private, and unlike Taylor Swift, who is famously dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Steinfeld has so far revealed their relationship to television cameras at Bills games. is not shown.
But Allen did make a simple comment He spoke about their relationship in an interview with Kay Adams in August.
“We love love,” Allen said.
