How ‘media literacy’ threatens American freedoms

Imagine if the recent push for “media literacy” across the United States has focused more on violating First Amendment rights than empowering citizens. This seemingly harmless initiative hides a much more sinister agenda: the government and certain extremist groups working together to control the flow of information, stifle independent thought, and ultimately erode our freedoms.

The “media literacy” campaign is, in the Biden administration’s own terms, nothing less than a calculated propaganda effort designed to paint patriotic Americans who value the Constitution as “domestic violent extremists.”

The real purpose of the media literacy movement is not to educate but to indoctrinate, not to inform but to control.

The label “extremist” is applied surprisingly easily to individuals or groups who threaten the existing order. It serves as a powerful tool to silence dissent and marginalize those who advocate for the protection of constitutional principles and American freedoms. By conflating patriotism with extremism, governments attempt to create a chilling effect and prevent citizens from speaking out against policies they view as unjust or unconstitutional.

The media literacy movement seeks to establish an information hierarchy in which only mainstream media and government content can be trusted. This strategy intentionally delegitimizes independent media and journalists who question the official position. By labeling alternative viewpoints as “misinformation,” these organizations aim to suppress dissent and limit the public’s access to diverse perspectives.

One of the most disturbing aspects of this campaign is its infiltration of the education system. Radical organizations like the News Literacy Project, masquerading as nonpartisan, have made media literacy a part of school curricula in all 50 states. States like California have even made media literacy a graduation requirement, and it’s only a matter of time before this requirement spreads nationwide. These programs teach students that true literacy means getting information only from “approved” sources, branding those who seek out independent media as illiterate. This Orwellian redefinition of literacy aims to train young minds to unquestioningly accept government-approved narratives.

Courage is a habit I created a tool. The media literacy scam: Its penetration into K-12giving confidence to parents to block this propaganda in their children’s primary and secondary schools.

Parents who want the best for their children often fall for this deceptive rhetoric, convinced that fostering “literacy” is beneficial, not realizing that the term now means something different. Instead of encouraging critical thinking and independent study, these programs force students into a narrow worldview where questioning the status quo is viewed as ignorance.

The concept of “misinformation” is another tool in this propaganda arsenal. Traditionally, misinformation has referred to false or misleading information that is unintentionally spread. But not anymore. Government agencies and their proxies, such as the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center, have weaponized the term to discredit any information that contradicts their claims. This manipulation of language limits open conversation and critical thinking, and paves the way for more insidious forms of censorship.

By labeling dissenting voices as dangerous “misinformation,” these groups create an excuse to label “false statements” as “hate speech.” This dangerous path justifies labeling individuals and groups as “domestic terrorists” or “extremists” simply for exercising their free speech and questioning their government.

The implications for our country are profound: if unchecked, this trend threatens to erode the very foundation of American freedom: the First Amendment to our Constitution.

On his first day in office, Joe Biden directed his national security team to review domestic counterterrorism efforts. This review will determine whether the Biden administration “National Strategy for Combating Domestic TerrorismThe strategy listed the two major threats of domestic terrorism as racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists who advocate white supremacy, and anti-government or anti-authority violent extremists. To counter these “domestic violent extremists,” the Department of Homeland Security was instructed to fund and implement or plan digital programs, including media literacy, as a means to counter online disinformation and misinformation.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Prevention Programs and Partnerships Center provides financial support, training and resources through Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grants. On Jan. 17, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) said:
Letter to the Department of Homeland Security He accused Secretary of State Alejandro Mayorkas of using TVTP funds to weaponize taxpayer money to attack conservatives.

Hawley gives the example of the University of Rhode Island’s Media Education Institute, which received a $700,000 TVTP grant: “In its application, the institute wrote that it would address ‘propaganda and misinformation on topics such as immigration, racial justice, coronavirus, and vaccinations’ and ‘build on concerns about so-called ‘fake news’ and ‘cancel culture.'” The institute planned to use the funding to create a ‘counter-propaganda’ platform” — all funded with taxpayer money.

The insidious nature of the media literacy scam cannot be overstated. It is a direct attack on the principles of free speech and open inquiry that are the foundation of a healthy nation. In an age where information is power, controlling the narrative means controlling the masses. The true aim of the media literacy movement is not to educate, but to indoctrinate; not to inform, but to control.

As Americans, it is our duty to remain vigilant against such infringements and protect our constitutional rights. We must challenge the legitimacy of so-called media literacy programs and demand transparency and accountability from the organizations that promote them. It is essential to advocate for a more accurate definition of literacy that encourages critical thinking, open dialogue, and the free exchange of ideas.

The current media literacy scam being promoted is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and by exposing and opposing this propaganda tactic, we can protect our First Amendment rights and ensure that future generations inherit a country where free speech and the pursuit of truth are respected and protected.
