As President Donald Trump turns 80 this Sunday, many of his supporters believe he’s still vibrant and full of energy. Senator Ted Cruz, 55, remarked, “So far, he seems to be totally defying his age.” He went on to express amazement at Trump’s stamina, noting how he often stays up early and late.
In the Senate, where Iowa’s 92-year-old Senator Charles Grassley holds the title of the oldest Republican, Trump’s allies argue that age doesn’t necessarily dictate capability. “He sometimes calls me at 2 a.m.,” noted Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana), before adding that reaching 80 doesn’t equate to decline for everyone—some people manage just fine.
Former Senator John Breaux, 82, echoed this sentiment, citing personal experiences with individuals at various ages who thrived or struggled. “You have to evaluate people based on their abilities, not merely their age,” he said. Some may flourish at 80 while others may not even be at their best in their 40s.
Newt Gingrich, 82 and a long-time ally of Trump, suggested that his energy and enthusiasm only grow with age. He likened Trump’s rise and resilience to figures in history, asserting that ambitious goals contribute to longevity and vigor. “When you have big objectives and supportive friends, you can lead a more energetic life,” he remarked.
Trump maintains a packed agenda, often engaging with reporters for extended periods and sharing various thoughts on Truth Social at unusual hours.
Representative Ronnie Jackson, a former doctor at the White House, expressed confidence in Trump’s drive, stating, “Nothing will slow him down.” He noted that the president is set to celebrate his birthday by attending a UFC event on the White House lawn, later traveling to France for the G7 meeting, accompanied by family members, including Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump.
On a different note, the Democratic Party seizes the moment to scrutinize the age of the GOP leader. Former press secretary Andrew Bates joked about Trump’s memory regarding inflation, indirectly referencing the struggles of his own party’s leader in debates.
Trump has publicly addressed the notion of aging and danger, recalling incidents that could have been life-threatening. “I understand life,” he said, maintaining a calm demeanor about living in unpredictable times. Despite concerns about age, recent evaluations from White House physician Dr. Sean Barbavera indicated he remains in “excellent health,” estimating his heart health to be significantly younger than his chronological age.
