Huckabee: Christians Who Question Israel Are From Weak Churches

Israeli Ambassador’s Views on Christian Support for Israel

Israeli Ambassador Mike Huckabee expressed concerns on Tuesday regarding Christians who reject biblical reasons for supporting Israel, describing them as “indoctrinated” by universities and inadequate churches.

Speaking to Breitbart Fight Club, Huckabee, the U.S.’s first evangelical Christian ambassador to Israel, was prompted by Breitbart News’ editor-in-chief Alex Marlow, who highlighted the unique relationship between Christianity and Judaism.

Huckabee emphasized his supportive experiences, noting, “I can’t even describe how much support I’ve received. [Donald] Trump gave me this role – but honestly, I’d probably do it for free.”

Marlow added his own perspective, appreciating that Christians serve as ambassadors for Israel and valuing their role in safeguarding sacred sites. He pondered on the fate of historical artifacts if not for the current effectiveness of the Israeli government.

Senior editor at Breitbart, Joel Pollack, encouraged Huckabee to address the small but vocal group of Christians who oppose U.S. support for Israel, asking about the evangelical theology concerning this matter.

Pollack: What do you say to those who argue that Christian teachings do not mandate support for Israel, especially to young conservative activists? There seems to be a backlash among younger Christians against traditional support for Israel.

Huckabee: It’s really a troubling trend. While I don’t think there’s a massive decline in support from Christians, there are notable generational differences. Many young people have been influenced by universities that receive substantial funding from foreign sources and come from churches that haven’t taught them about Jewish biblical connections. It’s a fundamental misunderstanding. When asked why Christians support Jews and Israel, I explain that my faith, deeply rooted in the Jewish revelation through figures like Abraham and Isaac, centers on the idea that God designated this land. It’s intrinsic to my beliefs and, indeed, the foundation of Western civilization.

Pollack acknowledged Huckabee’s strong stance in favor of both Israeli and Palestinian communities, while also affirming U.S.-Israel relations. Huckabee responded, “I’ve always believed in being candid and straightforward. As an ambassador, I recognize my role is to represent the United States.”
