The family trip comes as Republicans on the House Oversight Committee and Judiciary Committee are jointly investigating corruption allegations against the Biden family as part of the presidential impeachment inquiry, and are considering possible criminal referral in lieu of an impeachment vote. Reports that Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is considering criminal referrals follow a joint hearing between the two committees last week, which included a hearing involving Biden’s son. It also included testimony from several former business associates of Mr. Hunter who testified about the extent of his involvement in Mr. Hunter’s business dealings. The White House denied it.
Comer did not say who these criminal referrals would target, but the Biden family faces some consequences for their plans to spread influence, as Republicans are unlikely to win votes.
