Hunter Biden smoked crack cocaine “every 20 minutes or so,” his ex-girlfriend Zoe Kestan testified at his gun trial on Wednesday, describing his substance abuse during their relationship in 2017 and 2018, the year the shooting incident occurred.
Prosecutors believe Kestan’s testimony shows Hunter was high at the time he bought the gun.
Hunter is charged with one count of making a false statement regarding the purchase of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm by an unlawful user or addict of a controlled substance, and one count of making a false statement regarding information required to be kept by a federally licensed firearms dealer.
Hunter was using crack cocaine when he bought the gun, according to many of the photos he left on his abandoned laptop. The gun was found discarded in a public trash can next to the school. The Secret Service is reportedly involved in the investigation.

Kestan met Hunter in December 2017 at a gentlemen’s club where she worked. Said jury.
“It was late at night,” she said, noting that Huhner asked her to dance alone one last time. He was smoking something out of an unusual pipe, she recalled. “I thought it was crack cocaine.”
The prosecution showed the jury images of Kestan and Hunter from the time of their relationship. “This is a used crack pipe,” Kestan said of a pipe on the bathroom countertop that was visible in the image.
Another photo the prosecution showed to the jury was of Hunter wearing a shirt that said “ADDICTED.” “I thought that was funny because he didn’t smoke marijuana,” Kestan recalled.
She also said she witnessed Biden using “chopsticks and a disassembled pen” to clean out a crack pipe.
According to her testimony, Biden asked her to get cash to buy the medication and gave her a code to use at an ATM via a mobile banking app.
Kestan told her he also used the same tactic with dealers, allowing them to withdraw cash directly from his bank accounts, she said.
After 10 days in the hotel, Kestan went to California but soon returned to New York. “He told me he was very stressed and trying to quit drinking,” she said.
During this time, the Biden family’s business was booming. The Bidens received money from deals with CEFC China Energy Co. In 2023, the House Oversight Committee found that CEFC controlled State Energy HK Limited, a company linked to a one-time $1.3 million payment to the Bidens.
Through the Biden family Suspicious Activity Report (SAR), the Committee also discovered that Biden associate Rob Walker had received a $3 million wire transfer from CEFC, resulting in four members of the Biden family – Hunter, James, Harry and an unidentified “Biden” – receiving a combined $1.3 million from the $3 million wire transfer.
