Hunter Biden’s Attorneys to Seek Dismissal of Tax Case

A US judge will be asked Wednesday to dismiss a criminal case accusing Hunter Biden of evading $1.4 million in taxes.

Lawyers for the president’s son will argue that prosecutors bowed to political pressure from Republican lawmakers investigating his father.

Nine charges are at issue, including three felonies, including failing to file tax returns, evading assessments, and filing fraudulent documents.

Reuters report Lawyers for Hunter Biden appear before District Judge Mark Scalsi in federal court in Los Angeles to argue that he was selectively targeted by prosecutors in response to Republican criticism of previous allegations of leniency. It plans to file several legal challenges to the charges, including:

If convicted of these charges, Hunter Biden could face up to 17 years in prison.

The father of four also faces federal charges of felony gun crimes, to which he has already pleaded not guilty.

The trial is scheduled to begin on June 20, months before Americans cast their votes in November’s presidential election, which is already a close race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

Special Counsel David Weiss, who brought both cases, accused Hunter Biden’s legal team of spreading “conspiracy theories” about the prosecution, saying the Biden administration’s Justice Department would act on instructions from Republican lawmakers. He said he had no intention of doing so.
