CNN senior legal analyst Ellie Honig said on “News Central” Monday that President Joe Biden tarnished his own legacy by pardoning his son Hunter.
“There has been a fair debate over the years as to whether Hunter Biden is being treated with too much leniency or with too much enthusiasm because of his status as Joe Biden's son,” Honig said. “I think there are opinions on both sides — it's fair for both parties.” But what I think is indisputable is that this is a historic act of political nepotism. If you understand what he's saying, a good part of this problem is because Hunter Biden is his son, and that puts Joe Biden on a historical list that he probably doesn't want to be on. He even says that he has acknowledged that it will be published on . The same goes for Bill Clinton, who pardoned his half-brother Roger Clinton, and Donald Trump, who pardoned Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner. So I'm sure Joe Biden understands the historical significance of what he did and now he's on that list. ”
He added: “This pardon tarnishes Joe Biden's legacy. So Joe Biden, let's be clear: He lied to us for a long time. He flatly said, “I will not forgive my son.'' He said he would take it off the table. And he emphasized it in very high-minded language, saying, “I respect the Department of Justice.'' I respect the jury's verdict. ” Well, now he’s back to it. ”
Honig added, “But as to whether this taints the justice system, I don't think I'd go that far. Like I said, I think this will be on the list of disgraceful presidential pardons. However, 50 or 100 years from now, law students will… , I don't think we'll look back on this as a horrible miscarriage of justice that shook the foundations of our justice system. And there's a reasonable argument that Hunter Biden was treated unfairly in some respects. I think it will cover it to some extent.”
