I caught my boss and a co-worker making out — should I say something?

I caught my boss in a compromising position with someone on staff outside of work. They both knew I saw it, but they didn’t say anything. It’s very unpleasant. Should I say something to either of you? Should I go to the human resources department? Should I leave it alone?

Well, this is a fine mess, but it’s not your fault.

It would have been easier if your boss or co-workers didn’t know you had been caught. You could then have reported it to human resources or anonymously without fear of being identified as you.

That doesn’t mean we haven’t reported it yet. It just makes things more complicated.

I have no intention of confronting either of them directly, but it’s a difficult decision to report what I’ve discovered.

Are they having an affair or are they single and in love? Will they go public? Will one of them transfer or retire?

Many variables to consider before taking action.

Perhaps wait to see how things go before making a decision. However, if the situation persists and creates an uncomfortable and unprofessional environment, you should speak to Human Resources.

A small business owner plans to leave his Italian deli for a job at a consulting firm. Getty Images

I’ve been a deli owner for 25 years and would like to start a small consulting business. I hope this will be helpful to small and medium business owners. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It’s so hard to find a good deli now.

I worked in an Italian deli in my youth and loved the aromas of sharp provolone, Parmigiano-Reggiano, chunky prosciutto, and soppressata that begged to be sliced.

These establishments are all but gone today, so if you’re willing to help small business owners start and expand this type of deli, I’d be happy to help.

As you know, it’s not easy to make a living as a small business owner. Profit margins are low and it is difficult to attract and retain staff.

Small business owners have access to numerous free and low-cost government resources to support small business owners, including the Small Business Administration, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber of Commerce.

If you want to support the next generation of mortadella slicers, get started through organizations like these.
