The big winner of the Sunday night Academy Awards ceremony was the independent film “Anola.”
It is about “a young sex worker in Brooklyn,” and “she meets an oligarch son and gets her chance in the Cinderella story when she marries impulsively. Internet Movie Database says.
“Most of Hollywood is trivial and mediocre, but this is evil.”
The Washington Post pointed out “Anola” “never celebrates the title character's line of work. Ani (Madison) is a stripper for the Manhattan boys' club.
On Sunday night, “Anola” took home five of the six nominations, golden statues.
Film creator Sean Baker won four Oscars for film editing, original scripts, directors and best photography (as one of the film's producers). First time candidate, star Mikey Madison got a surprise nod for the best actress.
But what stands out undoubtedly is the acceptance speeches from Baker and Madison, both of which gave a loud cry to the “sex worker community.”
“I want to thank the sex worker community,” Baker said. He spoke to the Academy Awards audience During his speech for the victory of his original script. “They shared their stories. They have shared life experiences with me over the years. My deep respect. Thank you. I will share this with you.”
Madison during Oscar's speech Give the crowd an image of a mirror near Baker's speech: “I also just want to recognise and respect the sex worker community. I will continue to support and be on my side. The incredible people, the women I had the privilege to meet from that community, are one of the highlights of this… an incredible experience.”
Diversity added In Madison's acceptance speech at the previous British Film and Television Arts Awards, she offered similar words.
moreover, The Associated Press said After Baker assembled his fourth Oscar, he offered to decriminate behind the scenes that sex work “has an incredibly unfair stigma applied to it.”
Pushback
As you can imagine, not everyone is taking part in lionizing the “sex worker community.” Here are just a few of the pushbacks under ABC News X's post about Madison's speech:
- “There's no honor to be a sex worker,” commenter I wrote it. “I hope that helps!”
- “The porn and pimp industry certainly celebrate.” I said.
- “Most of Hollywood is trivial and mediocre, but this is evil,” another comment It is listed.
- “Hollywood loves decadence,” another user said I wrote it. “Who guessed?”
- “Human trafficking and modern slavery are very flex,” another commenter I said.
- “I don't know who she is. I don't know the movie” Another user observation. “But what I know is that prostitution is harmful to women. It doesn't matter if people give their PC names to avoid hurting their emotions. Dehumanizing women through their own body use is not something to support or celebrate.”
