“I Was Overwhelmed”: Susan Page Shares That Getting the COVID Vaccine Brought Her Joy Comparable to Her Wedding Day

Joy in Vaccination

On Wednesday, Susan Page, the Washington Bureau chief for USA Today, expressed that receiving the Covid vaccine brought her a sense of joy similar to what she felt on her wedding day.

During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump praised the rapid rollout of the Covid vaccine through Operation Warp Speed, a government initiative aimed at accelerating vaccine development and distribution. On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Page shared her emotional experience, describing herself as feeling thankful and overwhelmed with gratitude when she received her first dose.

“I felt like crying,” she recalled. “I stood in line in the cold, and that moment was just so significant for me.” It was a moment of relief and gratitude as she thought back to the importance of getting vaccinated during that time.

The administration has made changes regarding the Covid vaccine’s status in the vaccination schedule. For healthy pregnant women, teenagers, and children, updates were announced in May regarding potential links between vaccines and issues like fatigue and muscle pain, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In August, the Trump administration ordered the elimination of policies from the Biden era that mandated agencies track employees’ vaccination statuses, which led to some employees being dismissed or pressured to get vaccinated for workplace safety under Biden’s administration.

Further, the administration stated that annual Covid vaccine boosters are no longer recommended for healthy individuals, emphasizing the need for more evidence to prove their safety and effectiveness. A study from the British Medical Journal found that the negative effects of vaccines on university students may outweigh the benefits.
