Zohran Mamdani Responds to Trump’s Claims

New York City Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani has pushed back against President Donald Trump’s assertion that he is a “communist.” With Election Day just around the corner, Mamdani declared he would “fight” back if Trump targets the city.

This week, Mamdani participated in an interview with The Good Liars, a political satire platform run by Davram Stiefler. During the discussion, he addressed the president’s comments directly.

“My message is that if you ever want to talk about how to fulfill your promise to lower the cost of living, I’m here,” Mamdani said when invited to respond to Trump. “But if your focus is on making life tougher for New Yorkers, then I’m ready to fight back.”

Earlier this month, Trump criticized Mamdani, stating, “The Mamdani thing is a disaster. We can’t have a communist running a city represented by free enterprise. A communist mayor will face difficulties.”

Mamdani countered this and similar remarks from others: “I’m not a communist. I’m a Democratic Socialist. I expect the president to call me whatever he likes,” he stated.

In the Democratic primary earlier this year, Mamdani triumphed over former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is now running as an Independent in the general election. Curtis Sliwa is the Republican candidate on the ballot.

Throughout his campaign, Mamdani has consistently led in the polls. Recent figures from Newsweek indicated that he enjoys 45% support among New Yorkers, while Cuomo and Sliwa trail with 28% and 15%, respectively.

Trump has warned of repercussions if Mamdani is elected, suggesting he might pull federal funding from the city.

“He will face challenges from Washington like no other mayor in our city’s history,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He won’t be receiving any funding, so why vote for him?”

The mayoral election is set for Tuesday, November 4th.
